Colorado AD Sends Message on Deion Sanders Before West Virginia Game

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes hit the road for a Week 11 matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers. At 3-6, Colorado must win all three of its regular-season games to earn bowl eligibility.

It's been a rough stretch of games for the Buffaloes. After upsetting No. 22 Iowa State on Oct. 11, Colorado lost its next two games. That includes a 53-7 loss to the Utah Utes and a 52-17 loss to the Arizona Wildcats.

It's a big drop for Sanders' squad after going 9-4 last season, marking the program's first winning season and bowl game appearance since 2016 (excluding 2020). It's clear that the departures of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, both of whom left for the NFL, are having a big impact.

It has raised questions about whether Sanders still has a long-term future with the Buffaloes. "The Colorado fairytale is over," CBS Sports' Shehan Jeyarajah wrote. "Reality is coming. And unless Sanders has another superstar family member waiting in the wings, it's hard to see a way out."

However, before taking on West Virginia, Colorado athletic director Rick George took to X, clarifying he's behind the head coach.

"I support Coach Prime 100%" George wrote.

Of course, Sanders is tied to Colorado through the 2029 season after signing a five-year, $54 million extension. According to Jeyarajah, a potential buyout would cost $33 million, making a head coaching change extremely difficult.

With bowl eligibility still possible, though, the Buffaloes have a chance to turn the season around. No matter the result this season, it's clear Sanders has the support from Colorado's biggest decision makers.
