The Colorado Buffaloes and Deion Sanders aren’t waiting around to bolster their roster and attempt to become a College Football Playoff contender in 2024.

On Tuesday morning, the program continued its trend of landing highly-coveted, talented players from the transfer portal.

Sanders had the nation’s No. 1 class of college football transfer recruits for 2023, and as of Dec. 20, the Colorado coach signed 16 new transfer players this time for a transfer class that again ranks No. 1 for 2024, according to Rivals.com and 247Sports.

The signings Colorado on the first day of the early signing period for recruiting. It included four offensive linemen — part of a strategy by Sanders this time to fill glaring needs on a team that finished 4-8 in 2023 and gave up the second-most quarterback sacks in the nation last season with 56.

“I definitely think we have a big, big, big shot at taking it all the way and winning this thing out, because the guys we got coming in — I’m not gonna lie — these are some dawgs,” former Indiana offensive tackle Kahlil Benson told USA TODAY Sports Wednesday after signing with Colorado. “This team is going to be magnificent. Just watch. We comin’.”

Deion Sanders And Colorado Buffaloes Land Dynamic FAU WR Lajohntay Wester Via Transfer Portal

On Tuesday, Sanders added yet another new weapon for his son, Shadeur, who is the starting QB for the Buffaloes.

Former FAU WR Lajohntay Wester Committed to the rising program with a post on Instagram.

It featured a graphic of Wester in a Colorado Buffaloes uniform with a caption that read, “the wait is over, I’m coming.”

Wester had 108 receptions for 1,168 yards and 8 touchdowns during the 2023 season.

In his career at FAU, Wester had 2,703 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns. He had 213 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

He also had a career-high 97.3 receiving yards per game.

The newest Colorado Buffaloes commit has versatility that will help Deion Sanders dynamic offense, but can also be used as a weapon on special teams. He had 290 career kick return yards and 632 punt return yards, with his first punt return touchdown in his collegiate career happening this past season against the University of South Florida.

Wester finished the 2023 season 2nd in the nation in receptions per game, as well as 11th in the nation in receiving yards and receiving yards per game.

Wester will join the All-AAC First Team Offense and Third-Team Special Teams by Phil Steele’s Magazine and Third-Team punt returner and Fourth-Team honors by Athlon Magazine.

Deion Sanders has made a priority to add as many playmakers at WR as possible for his son to thrive — while bolstering an offensive line that was a  major problem for the Colorado Buffaloes last season.

Colorado signed wide receiver Drelon Miller out of high school in Silsbee, Texas — the ninth-highest-ranked player to sign with Colorado since 2000, according to 247 Sports.

He’s joined by Vanderbilt transfer receiver Will Sheppard, who led his team with 684 receiving yards in 2023 and has one year of college eligibility left.

Sanders also added two new quarterbacks, in case an injury affects the Colorado starting signal caller.

“You’ve gotta fill a void,” Sanders said in the interview with USA TODAY Sports. “You’ve got a great quarterback (Shedeur), but if something transpires and you plan on winning, you need a guy to step right in, to fill those shoes that’s a leader.”

He landed Kentucky quarterback transfer Destin Wade and Vanderbilt transfer Walter Taylor. Each has three years of eligibility remaining after not getting much playing time at their previous schools.

Last year, Deion Sanders overhauled the whole roster when he took over as the Colorado Buffaloes head coach with 47 new scholarship transfers from other four-year colleges. They helped the Buffs improve from 1-11 in 2022 to 4-8 in 2023, including five losses by seven points or less. This year, he targeted deficiencies on his team such as the offensive and defensive lines, as while as adding veteran quarterbacks and a bevy of receivers.
