Colorado, Deion Sanders Receive Big Recruiting News on Friday

There's no doubt that head coach Deion Sanders has done a great job helping the Colorado Buffaloes improve on the field, sporting a 9-4 record in 2024, marking their first winning season since 2016 (excluding 2020).

One of the reasons for the success is Sanders' ability to recruit talented players, which is showcased by their 2025 transfer portal class, which features a total of 30 commitments.

However, that hasn't necessarily translated to high school prospects, as their 2026 recruiting class holds just two commitments and ranks No. 15 in the Big 12.

That could certainly be changing very soon, though, because on Friday, On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that they, along with Florida State and Florida, are the three finalists for cornerback Preston Ashley.

Of course, this is exciting news for Colorado, as On3 Industry Rankings place Ashley as a four-star recruit, the No. 22 cornerback, the No. 11 player in Mississippi and the No. 249 player in the nation.

In the past two seasons, he's put up solid numbers for Brandon High School. He's appeared in 24 games, accumulating 134 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and one fumble recovery.

Of those top three schools, he currently has two official visits scheduled: first with Colorado on June 20, which will be his first with the Buffaloes, and one on Aug. 29 with Florida State.

If Colorado and Sanders do land his commitment, Ashley would immediately become one of their top additions, joining three-star tight end Gavin Mueller and four-star JUCO EDGE Domata Peko Jr.
