Expect a shift in the Colorado offense, at least a little bit.
There will be a running game, mainly because 1) the offense was totally reliant on Shedeur Sanders making the right reads and the right plays, and 2) Shedeur didn’t run.
The nation’s worst ground attack will be a wee bit more mixed, but it’ll still go fast, it’ll still be explosive, and it all has to start with finding a …

- Quarterback. How do you replace Shedeur Sanders? Go ahead and fire on his style and game all you want, but he was the most accurate two-year passer in FBS history, completing 71.8% of his throws with 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, all while taking a brutal beating game after game. He ran for eight touchdowns, but there wasn’t anything for the ground game.
Enter Kaidon Salter (Liberty), a dangerous dual-threat option who threw for almost 6,000 yards over the last three years with the Flames, ran for over 2,000 yards with 21 touchdowns, and he has the experience to fill in the gap right away.
Star freshman Julian Lewis will push hard for the gig this fall, and 2024 backup Ryan Staub is still around in an emergency role. But no matter who takes the job …
- Travis Hunter. How do you replace the guy who caught 96 passes for almost 1,300 yards and 15 scores last year? The Buffaloes have to replace the 74 grabs and ten scores from LaJohntay Wester, too, and Will Sheppard, and Jimmy Horn.
The top-level talents aren’t there like last year, but there are stronger options for a deeper bunch.
Omarion Miller is a deep threat on the outside, Dre’lon Miller is a big option for the inside, and 6-5 Sincere Brown (Campbell), Hykeem Williams (Florida State), and Joseph Williams (Tulsa) are all explosive talents with proven experience.
- The offensive line has been an issue over the first two years under Coach Prime, to be nice about it. The four new transfers and veteran left tackle Jordan Seaton will make things better in a hurry.
Xavier Hill (Memphis) and Zy Crisler (Illinois) immediately upgrade the guard situation, and Zarian McGill (Louisiana Tech) is an all-star caliber leader and blocker in the middle.
The right tackle job will be a battle through fall camp with JUCO transfer Mana Taimani and banged veteran Phillip Houston - when healthy - each able to handle the work.
- The best Colorado back is the coach. Marshall Faulk is handling the running back coaching duties, and he’ll need to find production out of this bunch.
Dallan Hayden averaged just three yards per carry, but should be better if he’s 100%. Micah Welch ran for four scores and came up with just 196 yards, and DeKalon Taylor (UIW) is a speed back who ran for over 900 yards and nine touchdowns last year
