Arch Manning and the No. 10 Texas Longhorns suffered what was the team's third loss of the season on Saturday, falling 35-10 to the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
The loss drops Texas to 7-3 and may have eliminated itself from making the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive season. The Longhorns seemed to have a chance in the second half to pull off the comeback thanks to a 7-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Ryan Wingo with five minutes, 27 seconds remaining in the third quarter, making it 14-10. However, Georgia scored 21 unanswered points to ice the game, while Manning and the Longhorns' receivers struggled to connect.
Manning finished the game with 251 yards with a touchdown and interception, while completing 27 of 43 passes (62.7%). But as pointed out by Inside Texas' Evan Vieth, the first-year starter didn't get much help from his receivers.
"Arch Manning was credited with an 82.1% adjusted completion percentage," Vieth wrote on X. "It's his third game in a row over 79% Drops are killer."
According to PFF, the Longhorns' offense accounted for five drops on Saturday, with two of them being assigned to Wingo, who now has six for the season. Although Manning was far from flawless, it's clear that the playmakers he's throwing the ball to aren't always making his life easier.
The Longhorns lost a ton of production from a year ago to the NFL, as the team's top three pass catchers of Matthew Golden (Green Bay Packers), Gunnar Helm (Tennessee Titans) and Isaiah Bond (Cleveland Browns) all left huge shoes to fill. With just two weeks left in the regular season, Texas badly needs to figure things out on offense.
The Longhorns will host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in a game that kicks at 3:30 p.m. ET and airs on ABC.
