Could Turner Corcoran be Nebraska Football’s left tackle?

In his meeting with the media on Monday, Nebraska football offensive lineman Turner Corcoran said he’s playing left tackle, will he start there?

One of the biggest question marks facing the Nebraska football team heading into the 2023 season is the offensive line.

That’s something that most fans and pundits agree on. Nebraska football will need to be better on the offensive line or getting back to a bowl game might not be a reality.

The good news is that Nebraska has guys with starter potential joining the team from the transfer portal like Ben Scott or coming back from injuries or suspensions such as Teddy Prochazka and Nouredin Nouili.

However, much of the improvement needs to come from within. Head coach Matt Rhule has said he thinks the offensive line wasn’t as bad as people said last season and that remains to be seen.

But a key part of the offensive line — whether it be at guard or tackle — is going to be Turner Corcoran. Last season, Corcoran started out at guard and moved out to left tackle when Prochazka got injured.

Could Turner Corcoran be the starting left tackle?

Corcoran played left tackle in the Nebraska football spring game and according to what he told reporters on Monday after the first practice, he’s playing tackle right now. The fourth-year Husker said he’s willing to play wherever the staff needs him and maybe they’ll need him at left tackle.

Prochazka needs to get healthy, yes. But he’s also started just five games in his career and the 6-foot-10, 320-pounder is far from a proven commodity.

Many of us wondered why Ethan Piper went to Big Ten Media Days because Corcoran and Nouili have been the expected starters at guard. Yet, what if Piper is viewed as a starting guard right now, with Corcoran being viewed as the left tackle?

It’s certainly a possibility. It would be great to have Prochazka back, but it’s hard to know if he’s 100 percent and even harder to know if he’ll be able to stay healthy.

Whether it’s the first game or not, Corcoran is likely going to have to start some games at left tackle this season and who knows, by the end of fall camp, he might be the preferred option as the blind-side protector.
