The Transfer Portal giveth and taketh away.
In recent years, the transfer portal has become a key tool for college coaches looking to bolster their rosters for the upcoming season. While recruiting high school prospects has traditionally been the primary method, in today's college football landscape, coaches risk falling behind if they aren't aggressive in acquiring talent through the portal.
On Friday, reports surfaced that highly touted NC State transfer wideout Kevin "KC" Concepcion is currently visiting Alabama. Concepcion confirmed the news by posting a picture on his Instagram story, showing himself traveling through Tuscaloosa for his followers to see.
Currently, the 5'11", 189-pound speedster is ranked as the portal's 5th-rated wide receiver and 12th-ranked prospect overall in the 2025 pool.
It’s easy to see why Concepcion is a hot commodity among programs nationwide. This fall, he racked up 460 receiving yards on 53 catches, along with six touchdown grabs.
The good news for Alabama is that they’re expected to return two of their top pass-catchers in freshman phenom Ryan Williams and junior Germie Bernard. However, a number of other Crimson Tide receivers, including Kendrick Law, Caleb Odom, and Kobe Prentice, have already entered the transfer portal.
Nonetheless, Alabama has never lacked talent at the wide receiver position, and it wouldn’t be surprising if head coach Kalen DeBoer makes a big splash in both the transfer portal and the high school recruiting ranks. ‘Tis the season to be jolly!
