Dabo Swinney, Clemson land trio of elite recruits

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are putting together one of the top 2027 recruiting classes in the country, and they just had a banner day.

Within the span of a few hours, Swinney and his staff landed three elite 2027 commitments to a class that very well could end up being one of the best in the country when all is said and done.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson earn commitments from elite recruits

The first commitment came from four-star EDGE Desmond Malpress from Jacksonville, Fla. Malpress chose the Tigers over South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Florida and Florida State, but the Gamecocks were really Clemson's biggest competition in this one.

An official visit to Clemson this past weekend sealed the deal for Malpress.

“Clemson has felt like family even before my official visit,” he told Rivals. “They brought me in with open arms. It’s a great winning program led by Coach Swinney and their academics are amazing as well.”

The Tigers then picked up a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Luke Starcevic.

Starcevic is a massively intriguing player in that he has been recruited as a tight end, a defensive end and an offensive tackle. The Tigers like him on the offensive line, but it's a testament to his abilities that 247Sports ranks him as the No. 7 athlete in the 2027 class.

Usually, the "athlete" moniker is reserved for wideouts who can also play cornerback or high school quarterbacks who project better at a different position at the college level. The fact that Starcevic, checking in at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, is considered that elite of an athlete recruit is telling.

Last but not least was a commitment from four-star offensive tackle JJ Brown. Speaking of big athletes, he checks in at 6-foot-6, 310 pounds and is ranked as the No. 32 offensive tackle in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The Tigers had some major competition for his commitment, but he chose them over Florida, Georgia, Florida State and Auburn.

Brown committed after the big official visit weekend, but his decision even surprised him.

“I really didn’t think that I was going to commit a couple days after. But I just believe it’s the perfect place to be and the perfect time to do it now," he told Chad Simmons of Rivals.

Swinney's 2027 class now has 19 commitments, and it's ranked No. 6 nationally.
