It was a big day for the Oregon Ducks football program.

The Ducks had one of the best seasons in program history last season, finishing the regular season with an undefeated record.

They improved upon that mark by winning the Big Ten Championship game, despite it being just the team's first year in the conference.

Oregon earned a first-round bye in addition to the No. 1 overall seed in the new-look College Football Playoff. But their good fortune came to an end at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes, a site all too familiar to Ducks fans.

Dan Lanning announces transfer portal decision

As a result of the team being so good, it wasn't shocking to see Ducks players selected in the NFL Draft this weekend.

Some of the players who were drafted were from the defensive side of the ball.

They saw their two defensive tackles, Derrick Harmon and Jamaree Caldwell each selected, as well as edge rusher Jordan Burch.

In the fifth round, the Kansas City Chiefs selected linebacker Jeffrey Bassa at No. 156 overall.

Bassa had 54 combined tackles for the Ducks last season, 23 solo and 31 assisted.

While the draft was still going on, the Ducks were playing their annual spring game.

Some teams have opted to go away from the traditional spring game, but head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks still find value in the contest.

Lanning is tasked with replacing reliable productivity on the defense, but he had a major message regarding the linebacker position.

Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire had this to say about addressing the defensive needs.

"Dan Lanning says flat out that the Oregon Ducks will not be pursuing a linebacker in the transfer portal this offseason," wrote Neel.

The spring game gave Lanning an ideal opportunity to take in the state of the defense. He must've liked what he saw from the guys already in house, as the transfer portal would've allowed him to add depth or other competitors at the position.

With months still to go before the start of the season, things could change at the drop of a hat, but at this moment, Lanning seems to be satisfied with his guy.
