Dan Lanning Gets Troubling Update on 5-star Commit Ahead of 2025 Season
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has long been regarded as one of the best recruiters in the nation, but he's been having a bit of a rough stretch in Eugene.

Already this spring, the Ducks have lost out on 5-star QB Jared Curtis and 5-star OT Jackson Cantwell, both of whom were at one time thought to be Oregon commits. Now they are getting some rather troubling news about 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley, who committed to the Ducks earlier this month.

On Monday, it was announced that Wesley, the No. 14 player in the 2026 class, would be taking a number of official visits this summer and fall despite being committed to Oregon.

Wesley's first visit will be to the Ducks on June 6, followed by a trip to see the Texas Longhorns on June 20. The most concerning news for Oregon to get, though, is about the last visit that Wesley has scheduled.

On August 30, Wesley will head to Columbus to take an official visit with the Ohio State Buckeyes on the same weekend that they host the Longhorns in The Shoe. Wesley also plans to take an OV to the Texas A&M Aggies, though a date for that has not yet been set.

When he committed to Oregon on May 10, there was some speculation about how things transpired, with stories coming out in the following days that showed his family had no idea he was going to announce his decision, and there being a lot of "work to do" on the NIL front between the two parties before signing day.

Now, with official visits scheduled, it's become clear that the Ducks will still have to fight off other schools as they try to hold onto Wesley through the next six months until national signing day.
