Deion Sanders continues to build his Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff with NFL pedigree, this time adding former Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos defensive tackle Domata Peko as the team’s new defensive line coach. The move signals Sanders’ commitment to bringing elite experience to Boulder as he reshapes the program into a national contender.

Peko, a 15-year NFL veteran, brings a wealth of knowledge to the Buffaloes. After retiring in 2020, he spent last season as an assistant defensive line coach with the Dallas Cowboys, working under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer—a familiar face from their time together in Cincinnati. Peko’s NFL career included 616 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, and 20 sacks, making him a proven leader on and off the field. His connection to current Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, who also worked with the Bengals, adds another layer of cohesion to the staff.

Colorado Lands Huge Commit Through College Football Transfer Portal

This isn’t Peko’s first stint in Colorado. He played for the Denver Broncos in 2017 and 2018, earning respect from local fans. Now, he returns to the state to mentor a young defensive line, replacing Damione Lewis, who left for Miami. Peko’s hiring follows Sanders’ trend of recruiting former NFL stars, including Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, who joined as running backs coach earlier this month.

Deion Sanders’ Revolutionary Recruiting Strategy at Colorado

Sanders’ strategy is clear: surround his players with coaches who’ve excelled at the highest level. With Peko’s expertise and Sanders’ vision, the Buffaloes are poised to make waves in the college football landscape. Buffaloes fans, get ready—this is just the beginning of a new era in Boulder.
