Colorado head coach Deion Sanders believes Kaidon Salter’s skill set will reshape the Buffaloes’ offense and challenge defenses across the Big 12.
Sanders called Salter “a guy with multiple talents” who can throw with confidence and run with purpose. Even in practice, where contact on quarterbacks is off-limits, Sanders says Salter’s burst, speed, and defensive reads are hard to miss.
Sanders expects a clear shift in style with Salter at the helm.
“The kid is going to cause havoc,” Sanders said. “It’s going to be a totally different type of offense from what you’ve seen us do in the past.” While Colorado has recently leaned on a quarterback with elite passing skills, Salter brings the ability to attack defenses through the air and on the ground.
For now, accuracy is the focal point in his development. “We just want him to complete every darn pass. Completions, completions, completions,” Sanders said. “When he gets that second part down, it’s going to be a problem, a tremendous problem for all defenses.”
The quarterback competition remains open, with Sanders noting that “the cream of the crop is gonna rise.” He said the staff believes they can win with either option but wants to ensure they are in “the best position, totally” when the season begins.
If Salter’s passing game catches up to his already dangerous rushing ability, Colorado could roll out one of the most unpredictable and explosive offenses in the Big 12.
That kind of dual-threat presence could force defensive coordinators across the league to adjust their game plans in a hurry, and it would mark a significant step forward in the Buffaloes’ push to compete immediately in their return to the conference.
