Deion Sanders, Colorado Have Already Been Eliminated From Bowl Contention

One season removed a 9-win season, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have officially been eliminated from bowl contention.

The Buffs were handed their fifth loss in the last six games with Saturday's 29-22 defeat at the hands of West Virginia on Saturday — dropping CU's 2025 record to 3-7 with just two weeks remaining on the schedule.

Clearly, things haven't gone the way Coach Prime expected once Travis Hunter and his sons Shedeur and Shilo left for the NFL. And now his program is within one game of finishing last in the Big 12.

Colorado misses out on bowl eligibility

While Saturday's loss was obviously a tough blow for Deion Sanders' tenure at Colorado, it also marked the second losing season in three years for the Hall of Fame DB.

After tremendous success as a player and coach at the high school and HBCU levels, Coach Prime's run in Boulder hasn't been the most consistent as far as on the field.

While Deion's been able to breathe new life into a once dormant program, not enough wins have followed to keep the nation's attention and deliver on the hype that he helped generate with his mere presence on CU's campus.

2025 also wasn't helped by Sanders' numerous health scares that forced him to undergo all sorts of procedures while fighting off bladder cancer — which is completely understandable.

Fans comment on Colorado's struggles

"Deion talks like a national champion and coaches like a mid-tier coordinator. Two losing seasons in three years is NUTS," a user said.

"Can’t even get the Kellogg’s Cornflakes Bowl," another replied.

"There were serious people who wanted FSU to pay 60 million dollars to clear the deck and then pay more to hire this for 'the standard' " a fan posted. "Should be banned from watching football for even suggesting it."

"Colorado has 2 winning seasons since 2006 - Deion is 1 of them. In that same span of time they have 4 seasons with 2 or less wins - Deion is none of them," another person pointed out.

"What does Colorado do with Deion? You gotta give him one more season, right?" another user asked.

Colorado has been a really tough watch over the last month-plus, but it's also important to add context to the mess that he took over. CU is by no means a CFB power and has only won one bowl game since 2000.

Deion also has as many victories over the last three years as the previous four-and-half seasons combined — dating back to 2018.
