Deion Sanders Criticizes Heisman Voting After Travis Hunter's Win

The 2024 Heisman Trophy race was one of the most debated topics of the college football season.

Of course, it was truly a two-man race between Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, with Hunter coming out on top.

However, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders shared major criticism for the voters while on the "Colorado Football Coaches Show."

"First of all, it was too close," he said. "Cmon, man. We've seen all the other stuff before. What everybody else did that was there. We've seen that before. We ain't never seen this before. So, how could it even be close? That’s the kind of stuff that make me mad.”

It was a close race, as Hunter ended with 2,231 points to Jeanty's 2,017, the closest margin of victory since 2009 when Alabama RB Mark Ingram (1,304 points) beat Stanford RB Toby Gerhart (1,276 points).

In the end, Hunter's 61% of the first-place votes, compared to Jeanty's 34%, secured his Heisman victory.

Of course, Deion's claim that what Hunter did this season has never been seen is spot on.

Through Colorado's 12 games, he accumulated 92 receptions, 1,152 yards, 14 touchdowns, 32 tackles, 4 interceptions, 11 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble.

However, it should not diminish Jeanty's 2,497 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns, as each player had amazing seasons.
