Deion Sanders explains why he doesn't 'give a damn' about a bowl game

Deion Sanders has Colorado on the precipice of something it has only done twice since 2010. With two more wins, his Buffaloes will officially be bowl-eligible.

Of course, that's easier said than done with a remaining schedule that still features No. 18 UCLA, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 19 Washington State and No. 16 Utah along with unranked Stanford and Arizona, but Coach Prime isn't even sweating bowl eligibility right now.

Like most great competitors — and we know he fits that description to a tee — Sanders is focused on the here and now. Forget bowl eligibility, he's just trying to pick up another win for 4-2 Colorado.

“We want to win,” Sanders said in a recent news conference (h/t On3). “I don’t give a damn about no bowl right now. We want to win. If that’s part of the package at the conclusion of the season of winning — I’m all for it… But that’s one of my least concerns right now is a bowl.”

Colorado will play host to 1-4 Stanford this weekend, so the chance to get to 5-2 is certainly there. The stretch of UCLA, Oregon State, Washington State and Utah is going to be tough, but we know the Buffs can play with just about anybody. A home game against Arizona sandwiched in that stretch in mid-November is also another chance for Colorado to pick up a seemingly easy win.

With that said, six wins sure seem reasonable, and more should be expected from this team.

For what it's worth, as a player at Florida State, Sanders and the Seminoles went to four straight bowl games, so he knows the type of experience it can be for his program.

“I thank God when I was in college, we had the opportunity to go to four straight bowl games,” Sanders said. “Which was a true gift that was wonderful. Me and my teammates enjoyed it."
