Colorado’s optimism from early drives evaporated Saturday night as No. 25 BYU rallied for a 24-21 win at Folsom Field, leaving Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes 2-3 (0-2 Big 12).
Colorado opened with two first-quarter touchdowns but failed to close, with the last drive ending on a late Kaidon Salter interception and BYU’s Isaiah Glasker sealed the victory with the pick.
Coach Deion Sanders was frank after the game. Asked to find a silver lining, he joked about searching for positivity, saying, "Yeah, we had six penalties... I think that's better than last year," before admitting with a laugh, "I'm trying to find light man, in a dark tunnel."

Freshman BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier was efficient (19-of-27, 179 yards, two touchdowns) and a running threat (98 yards), while Salter for Colorado completed 11-of-16 for 119 yards with a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown but also threw the pick that ended the comeback.
As Sanders noted in his press conference, the Buffs were flagged six times for 67 yards and several costly penalties and situational miscues erased momentum throughout the second half.
Colorado’s next five games include on the road at No. 24 TCU (Oct. 4) and home dates with Iowa State (Oct. 11) and Arizona (Nov. 1), plus a late Oct. trip to Utah.
With all of these matchups being against conference opponents, there's still room to salvage bowl eligibility if the Buffs stabilize play and limit mistakes.
How Colorado responds over the next month will determine whether the season resets into a competitive Big 12 campaign or slides into another reconstruction year.
