Deion Sanders Issues Strong Warning After Colorado Loss to West Virginia

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes won't be going bowling. Coach Prime's squad dropped its third straight game on Saturday, a 29-22 decision on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The defeat puts Colorado at 3-7 on the season, with a 1-6 mark in Big 12 play.

Sanders won't accept more of the same next go-round. He let it be known that things won't look the same after this campaign is through.

"I wanna see them study more, prepare more, because you've gotta make some decisions, they've gotta make some decisions in the offseason," Sanders said. "Which directions are we going with them? Which directions are they going with us? So that's tremendous from here on out. It's really roster management, coach management, understanding what we're gonna do going forward. But I promise you, it's gonna be some changes."

Changes, of course, were what made this season so bumpy for the Buffaloes. Colorado lost quarterback Shedeur Sanders and receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter to the NFL after a solid showing in 2024, one that the elder Sanders hoped he could build on this time around.

Despite the struggles, Colorado athletic director Rick George gave Sanders a vote of confidence earlier in the week.

“Everybody feels like, ‘OK, we invested, we put our resources in it, we want results now,’ and yes, we get that but sometimes you just don’t live up to expectations,” George said. “But I’m proud of ‘Coach Prime.’ It’s been a tough year for him and what he’s been through, and he’s just been a trooper, he’s working hard and motivating, and he’s doing the things I want him to do as coach."
