Deion Sanders’ Kickstand’ vs. Michael Irvin's ‘Prayer'

FRISCO - A few months from now, the Dallas Cowboys will almost surely be searching for a new head coach. ... but Michael Irvin believes that search should essentially be over.

The Cowboys' iconic receiver and boisterous booster made a TV appearance this week predicting "100 percent'' that his best buddy Colorado head coach Deion Sanders would be the new head coach ... under one condition: That Dallas draft Deion's son, CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

As we detail here, simply in terms of chronology - the hiring process will begin in January and the NFL Draft isn't until April - that concept is nonsensical.

Nevertheless, Irvin - who has the ear of both Sanders and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones - did say on "The Herd,'' “I believe 100 percent (he would take the job), and I could tell you good sources have told me that. Great sources have told me that. ...''

Irvin has even posted on social media that he is "praying'' that such a deal gets done.

Logically, that "source'' is Deion himself ... and maybe Sanders nodded his head in the affirmative to Michael because "Coach Prime'' recognizes that the odds of Dallas drafting Shedeur while at the same time spending months declining to hire a coach are impossibly long.

Sanders, meanwhile, continues to insist - as he started to do two years ago in an exclusive interview here at CowboysCountry.com - that he simply has no interest in making such a leap.

"I’m happy where I am, I’m good. I got a kickstand down," Sanders said on Tuesday from Buffs headquarters in Boulder. "You know what a kickstand is? A lot of people not of age don't know what a kickstand is. It means I'm rested. I'm good. I’m happy, I’m excited, I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here. I truly do."

Sanders has in two seasons at Colorado turned a poor program into a good one. He's earned the right to be mentioned for top jobs. But while Michael has his hopes up? Yes, Deion has his kickstand down.
