Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes ended the 2024 college football season on a low note, falling to Big 12 foe, the BYU Cougars, 36-14 in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

Now, Coach Prime and company will be moving forward without quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the son of Deion, and Heisman-trophy-winning star Travis Hunter, both of whom are heading to the 2025 NFL draft.

However, Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes received some heartbreaking news to begin the new year.

According to the Colorado website, Lt. Evis McGee, who was part of Coach Prime's security team, passed away on Thursday night.

Colorado Athletics made a statement regarding his passing.

"The University of Colorado Athletic Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lt. Evis McGee, who passed away on Thursday night. LT was an integral member of Coach Prime's security team, contributing his exceptional knowledge and experience to enhance the safety and security of CU Athletics. His presence made a lasting impact, and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Coach Prime and the entire football family as they mourn the loss of a cherished colleague and friend."

After news broke, Deion Sanders himself also made a statement, sending his thoughts to McGee's wife and kids.

"Lt. McGee was one of the most loyal and faithful men that I've had a pleasure of working with," Coach Prime said. "His consistency & commitment to his family, friends and faith was truly commendable. LT will be missed. God Bless his wife and kids."

McGee served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. In April 2023, he began to work for the security at Colorado until the beginning of the 2024 season. Last September, he went back to Jackson State to work security for Deion Sanders' former program, where he coached from 2020-2022.
