It's not often you catch Deion Sanders at a loss for words, but Coach Prime didn't have much to say after Saturday's ugly 53-7 loss Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes.
The Buffs took a beating on the way to their fifth loss of the 2025 season, with CU being held to a combined 102 yards between both of their quarterbacks and a total of 38 rushing yards on 38 carries against the Utah defense.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Sanders admitted he was "dumbfounded" by the result and said that he couldn't believe the 46-point margin — which began with 46 unanswered points from the Utes.
“Sometimes you just are dumbfounded, man,” Sanders began. “You just look at this day and say, ‘Wow, what happened?’ There’s no way.”
“This is bad,” he admitted. “This is probably the worst beating I’ve ever had except when my momma whooped me as a kid.”
While the Buffs could barely muster 140 total yards on offense, Utah erupted for 422 yards on the ground alone — along with four rushing touchdowns from Byrd Ficklin, Wayshawn Parker, Nate Johnson and senior NaQuari Rogers.
"He kicked my butt today," Sanders said of Utah's Coach Whittingham. "It was one-on-one with me and him, and he won by a significant margin. ... We gotta figure this out, like now."
After winning nine games last year on the way to an Alamo Bowl appearance vs. BYU, Colorado now needs to win three of its remaining four regular season games to qualify for a bowl — which means beating some combination of Arizona, West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas State.
The Buffaloes have just one win since Sept. 27 when they beat No. 22 Iowa State at home behind arguably the best performance of Kaidon Salter's CU tenure.
Since the departure of Deion's son, Shedeur, quarterback has been a major question mark for the Buffs' program — and although each QB Coach Prime has trotted out there has shown flashes, they haven't been consistent enough to lead Colorado to more wins heading into the final stretch of the season.
