Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has only been at the Division 1 level of college football for three seasons, but he has still learned a lot along the way.
The Buffaloes fell to 1-2 after losing 36-20 to Houston on Friday. Sanders now shares the same record as another prominent head coach in college football.
No. 12 Clemson also lost in Week 3, going down 24-21 to Georgia Tech after a 55-yard game-winning field goal. It is the first time since the 2014 season that Clemson has started 1-2 under Dabo Swinney.
In a video posted by "Well Off Media," Sanders revealed to his team that Swinney is one of his favorite head coaches.
"I saw a statistic after Clemson lost," Sanders said. "That's one of my favorite coaches, Dabo Swinney, to ever stand on the sidelines. He said, the last time they were 1-2, they went on to finish, I believe 10-2."
What Sanders said was almost true about Clemson in 2014. The Tigers did start the year at 1-2 after losing to Georgia and Florida State, but the Tigers went 9-3 in the regular season that year, and beat Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl to finish 10-3.
While Colorado and Clemson are two different programs, it is still very early in the year, and a recovery can be made. Swinney has two national titles in 2016 and 2018 under his belt.
Sanders' record sits at an even 14-14 after the 1-2 start, but there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
The Buffaloes face Wyoming next before finishing out the regular season with only Big 12 foes. Colorado returns to Big 12 play against BYU on Sept. 27 after starting 0-1 with a loss to Houston.
Saturday's game against Wyoming kicks off at 10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
