Deion Sanders Refuses to Admit He's Wrong About Mistake Against Georgia Tech

Following the Colorado Buffaloes' Week 1 Loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, fans and analysts alike walked away with two major critiques about Deion Sanders' team.

For starters, they forced three turnovers in the first quarter, yet only scored seven points off of those turnovers. However, the more glaring issue came at the end of the game as Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's time management was questionable at best.

With Colorado trailing 27-20 with 1:07 remaining in the game and two timeouts at their disposal, the Buffs ended up leaving the game with both timeouts unused. Instead, they ran three plays that ended up taking 48 seconds off the clock, and essentially only got one shot at the end zone rather than possibly having three or more chances to tie the game.

Sanders defended his decision right after the game, but with a few days to sit on it was asked about not calling timeouts again on Tuesday, and again felt that he made the right decision.

"Let's just get the cat out of the bag," Sanders said. "First down, we throw a lateral pass and lose four or five yards, do you call a timeout there? No, you don't call a timeout there. You have to go. You're running tempo, right? The next play, you gain 14 yards or whatever and it's third-and-1, do you call a timeout there? Third-and-1, you get the first down, the clock stops, correct...When was the time to call a timeout? I'm just getting the elephant out of the room."

While most would have called a timeout in either one of the scenarios he proposed, the Colorado head coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame corner clearly saw things differently.

Regardless, with Colorado being favored by 23.5 points against the Delaware Blue Hens this weekend, there shouldn't be too many do-or-die situations with timeouts. With that being said, if Colorado continues to mismanage the clock in key moments, it could end up costing them even more games this season.
