Deion Sanders has worked tirelessly long hours following Colorado's 53-7 loss to Utah on Saturday night.
The Buffaloes fell to 3-5 after allowing 587 yards in Salt Lake City. Sanders told reporters Tuesday that he hasn't gone home since the Big 12 drubbing.
"I feel the worst," Sanders said, per USA Today's Brent Schrotenboer. "I haven’t been home yet. I’ve been here every night since. I haven’t been home yet, so that’s how much I care. That’s how much I love it. That’s how much I embody this university, the school, what they’ve done for us."
Colorado has already exceeded last season's loss tally to begin Sanders' third year as head coach. The Buffaloes are 1-4 in conference play and have allowed an alarming 217.3 rushing yards per game.
Coach Prime's squad appeared to turn the corner in a 24-17 win over Illinois, but Colorado returned from a bye week flat at Utah. Sanders maintained that his team was ready for the road game, declaring that Saturday was "one of those days that it just didn’t work."
"We’re better than this," Sanders said. "We really are. There’s no way we could play like that (against Iowa State), the last time you saw us play at home, and then go play like that (at Utah). That don’t add up. So don’t say we weren’t prepared. We were prepared. We just got our butts kicked."
Sanders will look to prove that point when Colorado hosts Arizona this Saturday. The Wildcats have lost three of their last four games, allowing 116 combined points, so the conference showcase could turn into a shootout at Folsom Field.
Colorado must win three of its final four games to receive a bowl game invitation. Sanders urged his team to forget about last weekend's rout.
"Let’s flush the darn toilet, and let’s move on," Sanders said. "And that’s what we’ve done. We’ve flushed the toilet and moved on."
Saturday's game starts at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
