Bank of America Stadium was hours from kickoff, but Deion Sanders was already calling his shot.

“It’s going to be a problem after tonight,” he told reporters in Boulder. “I promise you that.”

For the Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach, this wasn’t just another proud dad moment, it was a prediction. His son, Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was about to make his first NFL appearance in the preseason opener against the Panthers. And Deion believed everyone watching would have to take notice.

Total Confidence in His Son’s Readiness

Deion didn’t downplay the challenge. Shedeur entered the night as the Browns’ fourth-team quarterback behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel. Still, Prime saw it as an opportunity, not a limitation.

“He’s so prepared right now,” Deion said. “A lot of people are approaching it like a preseason game. He’s approaching it like a game.”

Personal Milestone for Father and Son

The moment was layered with emotion. Deion, now healthy after battling bladder cancer and enduring a 25-pound weight loss, had coached Shedeur his whole life. But Friday night was different, as this was the first time he wouldn’t be on the sideline with him.

“Me going out there taking that walk, and him taking that walk, that’s different for him,” Deion admitted. “But he’s thankful and appreciative of the opportunity.”

Built for the Big Stage

Social media chatter claimed the Browns weren’t giving Shedeur a fair shot without first-team reps. Deion dismissed that noise, saying his son had been prepared for the spotlight since childhood.

“He don’t get caught up in all the rhetoric,” Deion said. “Some of the stuff is just ignorance. But he far surpasses that and I can’t wait to see him play.”

Friday night wasn’t just about Shedeur’s throws or reads, it was about the moment. For Deion, seeing his son take the field was like “cutting the umbilical cord” and watching him stand on his own.

And if Prime’s prediction comes true, the Browns’ quarterback competition won’t look the same by sunrise.
