Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is about to embark on his third season in Boulder, and while you'd think he'd be used to all of the program's quirky traditions, there is still one that catches him by surprise.

With the Buffaloes coming off a 9-4 season in 2024, which was the first time since 2016 they exceeded five wins, Sanders and company will open the 2025 season against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. As he prepares to embark on his first season without his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders on the team, he also seems to be getting ready for a tradition that the student section participates in every game.

When speaking with CBS Colorado's Romi Bean, Sanders was asked if there was anything that surprised him about Folsom Field.

Deion Sanders Surprised by Smell of Weed at Colorado Games

It didn't take long for the Pro Football Hall of Fame member to answer the question, as he instantly went to the smell of marijuana.

"Yeah, the smell of weed in the second quarter," Sanders replied. "It surprises the heck out of me like every game. I'm like dang. It seems like it's like a light-up quarter, you know what I'm saying? So is this the quarter that y'all chose? Like I'm serious it's the tv timeout that never fails. I'm like wow, what's going on?"

In terms of on-field happenings themselves, Sanders aims to improve his record in Week 1 games during his coaching tenure to 6-0.

The oddsmakers at ESPN BET have Georgia Tech favored by 4.5, but ESPN's FPI gives Colorado a 52.7% chance of winning.
