Del Rio Joins UW Football Staff, Giving It 3 High-Profile NFL Names

Luke Del Rio, the son of former NFL coach Jack Del Rio, will join Jedd Fisch's University of Washington staff as an offensive analyst — giving the Huskies yet another offspring of a pro football leader with a high-profile name.

Del Rio joins fellow NFL sons Steve Belichick and Brennan Carroll, who will serve as Fisch's defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively.

The younger Del Rio comes to the Huskies from the Washington Commanders, where he spent the past four seasons in a variety of support roles. He worked alongside his father until Jack Del Rio was fired as the Commanders defensive coordinator following a Thanksgiving Day loss to Dallas.

Jack Del Rio previously was head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-11) and the Oakland Raiders (2015-17).

A hard-luck college quarterback, Luke Del Rio played for Alabama, Oregon State and Florida.

He was a walk-on who redshirted during the 2013 season for the Crimson Tide.

At Oregon State, Del Rio played in three games as a back-up for Sean Mannion, who was a reserve quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks this past season.

Transferring to Florida, he sat out a season and was named the Gators starter in 2016, was 5-1 before he injured a knee and both shoulders and was shut down. He completed 114 of 201 passes for 1,359 yards and 8 touchdowns.

In 2017, Del Rio appeared in two games before he suffered a broken collarbone and his playing career came to an end.
