Denzel Boston Will See An Increased Role in 2023

2022 told fans a lot about how the Washington coaching staff feels about Denzel Boston. During his true freshman season, the former three-star recruit from nearby Emerald Ridge played in four games in order to preserve his redshirt, including the 37-34 upset win over #6 Oregon.

Boston recorded just two catches for 15 yards over those four games, but he also found the end zone, scoring a touchdown on his only rushing attempt of the year against Portland State. In his second year on campus, those numbers are going to see a steep increase.

After Taj Davis transferred to Cal, there are going to be targets up for grabs. While Boston doesn't just have to compete with his fellow receivers for those targets, but with the tight ends and running backs as well.

Even in a pass heavy offense those opportunities might be scarce, but over the course of the spring, Boston proved what he can do when the ball is thrown in his direction. He scored two touchdowns in the spring game and proved throughout the spring that he has the ability to take the top off the defense.

The 6-4, 207 pound receiver has a prototypical frame and has been heralded by his teammates and coaches as a future star in the Pac-12. "I truly believe the sky's the limit when it comes to Denzel Boston," wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard said in the spring.

Shephard went on to detail what he needs to work on, specifically his lateral quickness, both in his routes and with the ball in his hands. As he also continues to learn the playbook, he'll see his snap count increase in 2023.
