Wiggins had been working under Nick Saban since the 2019 season. Big-time hire for the Maroon & White.
Dooley, who was the head coach at Tennessee from 2010 to 2012, has served as an analyst at Alabama for the last two seasons. He previously worked under Nick Saban at LSU and with the Miami Dolphins as a running backs coach and tight ends coach.
The former Vols head coach worked as the Dallas Cowboys' wide receivers coach from 2013 to 2017. Dooley's last stint as an on-field assistant coach in the SEC came at Missouri in 2018 and 2019 when he served as the Tigers' offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.
Saban could look outside of Alabama to replace Wiggins, but promoting Dooley, who is well versed in the Saban way, would be an easy choice for the legendary head coach.
