Devin Leary calls Kentucky decision a 'no-brainer'
USA TODAY Sports

Kentucky football may have gotten the best quarterback in the transfer portal with the addition of Devin Leary from NC State.

Andy Staples of On3 brought Leary onto his podcast to talk about the upcoming season with the Wildcats.

Leary was asked by Staples about how much thought went towards the rosters and pieces that would be surrounding him at various schools.

Basically, how aware of Dane Key and Barion Brown was Leary when he transferred to Kentucky?

"Very aware. That's kind of what I was saying heading into the portal, making sure you have a plan and you do your homework," Leary said. "Obviously Dane Key and Barion Brown on the film, Tayvion Robinson as well, they stand out at you. As a quarterback, that's what you want to do. You want to distribute the ball to playmakers on the perimeter, and what they did last year - especially Dane and Barion at such a young age - I mean it is very promising to a quarterback."

It was a no-brainer to choose Kentucky because of the receiver talent, says Leary.

"For me, entering the portal, just making sure I do all the right homework, making sure that I understand the roster and where I could fit in and who's going to be around me, I mean Kentucky was a no-brainer with having these guys here."

In 2020, Leary's season was cut short in the fourth game of the year, as he suffered a broken fibula. He would rehab and come back better than ever in 2021, breaking out by throwing for 3,433 yards, 35 touchdowns (program record) and five interceptions, leading NC State to a 9-3 record.

His 62-16 TD/INT ratio has made a lot of Kentucky fans excited about what this Liam Coen offense could be with Leary's guide.
