Alabama sent the college football playoff into chaos today when they upset Georgia in the SEC Championship and potentially knocked out the defending champions from the playoff.
When watching the game today, you may have noticed some similarities in Alabama's game plan with the quarterback run game with that of Georgia Tech's last week against the Bulldogs. Haynes King ran for a pair of touchdowns on some designed plays last week and it appeared that the Crimson Tide may have learned a few tricks from Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.
When asked about it after the win, Saban had this to say:
"I can't say that it exactly came from that game. We watch almost every game the team plays the whole season. You're always looking for things that people had success against 'em, things that created issues for them.
That is something that I think our offensive staff did a really good job of. To have some of those plays in the bag when we needed to take the air out of it at the end of the game and not give it back."
Georgia Tech scored 23 points on Georgia last week and until the Crimson Tide scored 27 on the Bulldogs today, that was the most points that anyone had scored against Georgia all season. It is not surprising that Alabama wanted to use some of the successful elements of the game that Georgia Tech had last week.
The Yellow Jackets are now waiting to see what bowl game they will play in. This will be the first bowl game since 2018 for Georgia Tech and they are going to be excited to be able to participate in the postseason.
