TEMPE — If you’re still doubting Arizona State football heading into its second year in the Big 12, you haven’t been paying much attention to what Kenny Dillingham is building.
This 2025 recruiting class isn’t just a promising step forward — it’s a statement. Four-star wide receiver Nalin Scott out of Georgia headlines the group of incoming talent that combines production and competitiveness. Scott had major SEC offers but chose Tempe. That kind of win in recruiting shows that ASU is trying to compete at the top level.
Scott’s skill set should give the offense another dynamic weapon as he developed further in college, especially when paired with Northern Illinois transfer Akim Lanieux, a towering 6-foot-7 wideout who adds immediate red-zone threat potential. Those kinds of targets can open up Dillingham’s offense in ways that make they an even bigger threat.
The addition of Houston transfer safety Maurice Williams Jr. adds to a revamped defense that’s quietly becoming a strength. A former track athlete, Williams brings speed and aggression that can elevate ASU’s physical presence on the back end. He fits the mold of a Big 12 defender: fast, versatile, and able to cover space.
And after finishing 11-3 overall, 7-2 in conference, there’s no reason the Sun Devils can’t make another big leap in 2025. With a returning core, improvements in the trenches, and Dillingham’s high-energy culture, this team has the tools to surprise people — again.
The pieces are falling into place, and this class reflects a coaching staff that knows what it wants and how to build. Don’t be shocked if the Sun Devils are all the conversation for football in come fall.
