Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is dealing with a headache with two weeks to go before the start of the college football season.
Per multiple reports, tight end Ian Schieffelin was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Tigers are aware of the situation regarding the former basketball player turned pass catcher.
Per Grayson Mann of TigerNet, Swinney released a statement regarding the arrest. The Tigers plan to suspend Shieffelin as a “consequence” of the arrest.
“We are aware of Ian Schieffelin’s arrest on suspicion of DUI,” Swinney wrote. Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence. We’re obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.”

Schieffelin was a forward for the Tigers basketball team before joining the football program. He averaged 8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for the team in 2024-25.
Schieffelin had not played for the football program before this season. It’s unclear what role he would have had for the Tigers early in the season as he gets acclimated to football at the college level.
The Tigers enter the upcoming season with expectations of competing for a national championship. The No. 4 program will begin its season on Aug. 30 when it hosts the LSU Tigers.
