The college football transfer portal opened on January 2, and since then, plenty of big names have found new homes.

On Thursday, another domino dropped as former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway committed to the Baylor Bears, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.

In December, Lagway posted on Instagram that he was going to enter the transfer portal after playing two seasons at Florida. In his time with the Gators, he threw for 4,179 yards with 28 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Lagway is a former five-star recruit who stepped in as the Gators’ starting QB in 2024 after Graham Mertz suffered a season-ending injury. Lagway was the QB1 in Gainesville in 2025 as well, but after head coach Billy Napier was fired, the expectation was that he would leave and search for other opportunities.

Baylor finished with a 5-7 record and a 3-6 mark in Big 12 Conference play, so bringing in Lagway should be a big boost to the offense.

Sawyer Robertson was the Bears’ starter the past two seasons, but he is headed for the NFL Draft after throwing for 3,681 yards with 31 touchdowns in 2025.

Lagway had an offer from Baylor in 2021 and he took an unofficial visit in high school before committing to Florida. The former five-star QB is also from Willis, Texas, and his father, Derek, played running back for Baylor.

It’s a big portal addition for Baylor coach Dave Aranda as the Bears try to compete in the Big 12.
