This morning on social media Louisville tight end Jamari Johnson announced his commitment to the Ducks, a 6-5, 265 blocker and pass catcher from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California.
Johnson is a redshirt freshman with three years to play three. He caught 13 passes for the Cardinals this season, good for 158 yards and 12.2 yards a catch. He scored the game-winning touchdown in their win over Virginia before getting injured by a hip-drop tackle by a Miami safety and missing the rest of the year with a leg injury.
His commitment gives the Ducks an experienced big tight end to replace Terrance Ferguson and Patrick Herbert to go along with talented sophomore Kenyon Sadiq. He's their fourth acquisition in the Portal after safety Dillon Thieneman of Purdue, cornerback Theran Johnson from Purdue and Texas State offensive lineman Alex Harkey.
Dan Lanning, chief of operations Marshall Malchow and the Oregon staff have been systematic and lethally efficient in the Portal thus far, indicating the program's determination to continue to compete in the PAC-12 and nationally. It's clear that next year is a reloading year rather than a rebuilding year, that excellence remains the standard.
