Terry Moore isn’t sneaking up on anyone in 2025. The Duke safety and rising senior has been named one of Pro Football Focus’ (PFF) Top 10 returning safeties, landing at No. 7 on the list after a monster 2024 campaign. Moore’s rapid ascent from reliable starter to national standout is turning heads across the college football world and for good reason.

What was once a quiet foundation piece for the Blue Devils has become the loudest name in the secondary, and Moore’s recognition isn’t just about flashy stats; it’s about doing everything right, every single down.
Versatility and Impact
Moore’s junior season was the kind of year defensive coordinators dream about. He started all 13 games and filled the stat sheet: 71 total tackles, seven for loss, a sack, four interceptions, five pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He wasn’t just productive, he was everywhere.
He led Duke in interceptions, tied for the team lead in forced fumbles, and finished fourth in tackles. But the real eye-opener? A 90.1 PFF grade, the highest of any Power Four safety last season. That number is more than just data, it’s a reflection of his football intelligence, instincts, and consistency.

And if there was any doubt about his playmaking ability, his 59-yard interception return against Ole Miss in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, the longest in Duke bowl history, slammed that door shut.
Smooth Moves, Sharp Mind
What separates Moore from the pack? According to PFF’s Max Chadwick, it’s his movement and mental game. “Moore has a silky smooth backpedal and flips his hips very well in coverage. That allows him to read quarterbacks’ eyes and break on the football at a high level.”
His technique is elite, but his ability to process and anticipate seeing plays before they unfold is what makes him truly special.
Built on Continuity
Defensive coordinator Jonathan Patke knows Moore is the tip of the spear in a defense returning six starters. “People underestimate continuity,” Patke told media, “There are no new faces. We’re a low-ego, high-output group… Our players know who we’re going to be.”
With spring ball in full swing and the Blue & White Game set for April 19, Moore is already stepping into his role as a leader. The season opener against Elon on August 28 is still months away, but the buzz is already building in Durham.
Terry Moore is no longer just a name to know in the ACC, he’s a name to watch nationwide.
