On the same day Duke football hosted its spring game, the Blue Devils quietly added a foundational piece to their future. Terry Walker III, a three-star quarterback from Indianapolis, announced his commitment to Duke on Saturday, giving head coach Manny Diaz his first quarterback pledge in the 2026 class.

“I love their offensive scheme,” Walker said. “They push the ball down the field a lot and it’s a very quarterback friendly offense!”

Walker’s recruitment reflected the same poise he brings under center. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound signal caller weighed his options carefully, taking multiple visits to Duke and ACC rival Virginia before ultimately siding with the Blue Devils. His offer list included Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Ball State, Miami (OH), and Bowling Green.
“Really outside of football, all the other aspects of being a student-athlete at each school is what I was looking for,” Walker told the Indianapolis Star. “After doing all of that and adding in the football piece... I’m going to Duke.”
His academic profile, highlighted by a 4.17 GPA, mirrors his on-field discipline. Both 247Sports and Rivals.com rank Walker as Indiana’s top quarterback prospect, with Rivals placing him sixth overall in the state and 247Sports listing him at No. 11.

Walker brings a solid foundation of varsity experience. As a junior at Lawrence Central, he threw for 1,467 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 377 yards and four more scores. Over his career, he’s compiled 2,685 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
Now preparing for his senior year at Hamilton Southeastern, Walker is expected to take another step forward. His frame offers room for growth, and his mechanics, while still developing, show signs of promise.
“I feel like [Duke’s] offense is a little more quarterback-friendly,” Walker said. “I’ve been able to watch film and see how much trust they have in the quarterback.”
Walker becomes the fifth commitment in Duke’s 2026 class and the first offensive skill player. His addition follows a 9-4 campaign in Diaz’s first year, which saw the Blue Devils post the best record among North Carolina’s FBS programs.
From a depth perspective, Duke is positioned to bring Walker along at a deliberate pace. The program added four-star Tulane transfer Darian Mensah this offseason, and veteran Henry Belin IV returns as a redshirt junior. Class of 2025 recruit Dan Mahan is also slated to join next year.
Given Duke’s current quarterback room, Walker won’t be rushed into early action. That’s likely to work in his favor. With his combination of academic discipline, physical tools, and long-term upside, this commitment reflects a calculated match one that could pay off for both sides.
