Ed Orgeron has been a head coach at Ole Miss (2005-07), USC (2013) and LSU (2016-2021), with his most successful stint being with the Tigers.
He never had a winning season with the Rebels and served as the Trojans' head coach for eight games after Lane Kiffin's 2013 firing. He was USC's defensive coordinator and defensive line coach that season.
Things really changed for Orgeron at LSU. He took the Tigers to bowl games in his first four seasons with the program, including winning a national title in 2019.
On Wednesday, ESPN Radio's Evan Cohen asked Orgeron if he would go back to LSU. Orgeron stated he would be back in a heartbeat.
"I’d love to," Orgeron said. "Are you kidding me? I'm one phone call away. I just gotta get in my truck, I could be there today."
Cohen then asked Orgeron whether he would return to LSU as an assistant under Kiffin. Orgeron would consider the move and mentioned how he even had a lot of fun just being the defensive line coach on the staff of former LSU head coach Les Miles from 2015-16.
"I'd consider it," Orgeron said. "I love LSU. I still got my home in Baton Rouge. I loved when I was with Coach Miles, being the defensive line coach. I love the Tigers, and I'm getting back to coaching. For sure, I'd consider it."
Unfortunately for Orgeron, the highs of his tenure in Baton Rouge did not last, as he missed the postseason in 2020 and was fired in 2021 after a 6-6 regular season finish.
That 2019 team he had at LSU was loaded with NFL talent, including Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase and many others.
LSU fired Brian Kelly after a 49-25 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M in Week 9 and is now led by assistant Frank Wilson as the interim head coach. The Tigers have a bye in Week 10 before facing No. 4 Alabama on Nov. 8.
