When the Oklahoma Sooners hired general manager Jim Nagy, it was to take over the recruiting for their 2027. Now, Brent Venables is still involved massively, but Nagy is heading the charge now. And, the 2027 cycle is set to be his first-ever full cycle.
So far in this cycle, we have seen him make his interest very known on some big-time recruits, like guys who play both sides of the ball. And, so far, while they don't have a player committed yet for their 2027 class, things are going well.
It's still extremely early. But they are making an impression on one specific 2027 guy in the trenches, and he is loving it.
Albert Simien is one of the 2027 recruits that the Sooners are pushing for the hardest, and that's mainly because of the insane potential he has. Simien is a four-star offensive lineman from Sam Houston High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. At 6'5" and 280 pounds, ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 interior offensive lineman and No. 51 overall in his class. His size and skills have drawn offers from major programs like Nebraska, Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and West Virginia. But, the Sooners are really standing out to him, especially after what they did on his visit.
Simien’s recruitment is heating up, with Nebraska and LSU standing out. But what he recently said about his visit to Oklahoma is what is really, really standing out. In fact, On3 is reporting that they were "taken aback," by how great he and his family were treated during their visit.
“Visiting Norman was a good experience — getting to know about their football program and the town around it,” Simien told On3's Sam Spiegelman. “From getting to talk with some of the players during the camp, it gave me a feel for how they are as a unit … the players gave good feedback on how he (Bedenbaugh) coaches and how the defensive and offensive lines have a good connection. The staff and my family are in constant communication about things going on within their programs.”

This isn't the first time we have heard Intel on the Sooners blowing away recruits on their visits. The Sooners know how to host a visit. Some of the issues they keep running into are that some of these players aren't real sure if Brent Venables, the head coach, will even be there when they get on campus. But, grabbing a guy like Simien will certainly help Venables.
He visited Nebraska in March. LSU, closer to home, is also a strong contender. Simien plans to visit Notre Dame on October 11, 2025. The Oklahoma Sooners need to keep pursuing Simien hard, because he is a guy who could be a cornerstone piece of their offensive line in the future.
