Head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame football currently hold an elite secondary group for the 2026 recruiting class. After seeing the pass defense this season under defensive coordinator Chris Ash, it is tough to feel confident that the talent will be utilized well, but at least the cupboard will be incredibly well-stocked for the future. It is a long, versatile, and extremely talented group of defensive backs overall.
Back on June 20th, the Fighting Irish received a commitment from Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield star cornerback Khary Adams, who is arguably the most gifted cover man in the entire 2026 class. Adams has a very strong argument as the most physically gifted cornerback that Mike Mickens has landed so far since he arrived in South Bend, which is saying a lot. Being able to beat the likes of Oregon and Michigan for Adams was a massive addition at the time.
As is typically the case when you have a rough start to a season, rumors have been circulating about recruits that could be on flip watch or are having second thoughts. Adams has been a part of some speculation recently, and the Wolverines have been the team associated with those rumors. The Maryland native addressed a question that was in my very own tweet about how locked in he was.
Adams not only reaffirmed his commitment to the Irish, but he did so in hilarious fashion.

With that meme posted, clearly Adams is not having second thoughts. The talented cornerback has been locked into his commitment the minute he made it, and that hasn't changed. As my initial reply stated, there is nothing to worry about right now. You have now heard it directly from the man himself.
Adams is considered a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms, and a top-100 overall player by multiple of them as well. Earlier this offseason, Adams earned a fifth star on the 247 Sports Composite ranking, which averages out all of the platforms together. On that ranking, the Maryland native currently ranks as the No. 22 overall player, No. 1 cornerback, and No. 3 player in the state of Maryland for the 2026 recruiting class. None of the three major platforms ranks Adams below No. 36 overall, which shows just how highly thought of he really is.
The 6-2, 175-pound cover man had been pursued by a long list of impressive programs. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, Penn State, Auburn, South Carolina, Maryland, Michigan State, Kentucky, UNC, NC State, UCLA, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, West Virginia, Minnesota, Boston College, Indiana, Georgia Tech, and Rutgers among several others.
As a junior in 2024, Adams was a tremendous two-way performer for Loyola Blakefield. On the defensive side of the football, Adams managed to record 43 total tackles, three interceptions, two tackles for losses, and two fumble recoveries. He also hauled in 34 receptions for 562 yards and six touchdowns as a wide receiver for the team.
