Ohio State’s quarterback play has been superb under Ryan Day and there are no signs of that slowing down in the future.
Though he may be a season or two away from being the lead guy at Ohio State, the Buckeyes landed another elite recruit at the position in the class of 2025.
Tavien St. Clair was the No. 4 player in the country and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio in the 2025 class. Luckily for Ohio State, it was an easy recruitment to win since he was in nearby Bellefontaine, Ohio. St. Clair has been on campus since the College Football Playoff run back in January and he is fitting right in with the Buckeyes this spring.
“It's been everything I thought it would be coming to Ohio State,” the freshman quarterback said on Thursday following practice. “I have had plenty of meetings with quarterback coaches. I've had great counsel and great leadership from the older guys in the room. Just other players on the team as well, just getting wisdom from them.”
It's been great, learning the culture and really trying to just enhance myself in it and just be a great part of this team and really just showcase what this team is all about."
St. Clair is technically competing for the starting job with Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz, the three scholarship quarterbacks that the Buckeyes have on the roster. Sayin is far and away the front runner to take the job, and Kienholz brings experience in the system, which could be valuable as a backup.
Still, the staff is sky high on St. Clair and his potential at Ohio State. The 6-foot-4 quarterback arrived on campus with a college-ready frame and he brings a bit of a Justin Fields’ style of play to the field.
St. Clair is an elite recruit who should have fans excited for what is to come when he does get on the field. His football IQ is off the charts and the Buckeyes labeled him early on as the guy they wanted in the 2025 class.
"I'm blessed to be here. I love it here. I wouldn't change it for the world.”
