2025 is a pivotal season for the Penn State Nittany Lions football program and head coach James Franklin. The Nittany Lions return a significant portion of their starters—especially at key positions.

At the most important position in the game, Penn State will once again have Drew Allar under center for his senior season. Allar is aiming to lead the Nittany Lions to a national title while also boosting his stock as a potential top NFL Draft pick.

There’s a real possibility Allar could be selected as high as No. 1 overall—it all depends on what he puts on tape during his final college season. Both ESPN draft analysts Matt Miller and Jordan Reid have listed Allar among their top five quarterbacks in their early players to watch for the 2026 NFL Draft rankings.

ESPN draft analyst raises fair concerns about Drew Allar entering 2025

“Every quarterback in this class is tough to rank, but Penn State’s passer is the toughest. He flashes brilliance with a big arm and good mobility for his 6-foot-5, 238-pound size, but his decision-making is very hit-or-miss, especially against top opponents. His ability to clean up mental mistakes will determine where his stock goes as a senior.” — Matt Miller, ESPN

Allar threw just two interceptions to 25 touchdowns in 2023, showing great care with the football. However, last season he tossed eight interceptions and was much more reckless with his decision-making. The Ohio native must eliminate those mistakes and show consistency on film to solidify his status with NFL scouts.

Penn State has a real shot at major success in 2025—and they’ll need Allar to lead the way. If he can win the big games the Nittany Lions need him to, his rising draft stock will naturally follow.
