The Ohio State Buckeyes added another first-round wide receiver to their NFL legacy in April when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Emeka Egbuka.
Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline has consistently developed top-tier talent since taking over the position, and there are no signs of that slowing down.
After a breakout sophomore season, one Ohio State junior is poised for a big year in 2025 as he becomes draft-eligible if he chooses to exit.
Both ESPN draft analysts Jordan Reid and Matt Miller currently rank Carnell Tate among their top five wide receivers for the 2026 NFL Draft. Reid lists Tate as his No. 4 wideout, while Miller ranks him No. 5 at the position.
Last season, in his first year as a starter, Tate recorded 733 receiving yards and four touchdowns while serving as the third option behind Jeremiah Smith and Egbuka. With Egbuka now in the NFL, Tate is expected to step into the No. 2 role and could be on track for a 1,000-yard season before his time in Columbus is up. Tate is a smooth route runner that can move the chains consistently for the offense. He should have a bigger chance to make plays after the catch this coming season.
Since arriving on campus, the Chicago native has made the most of his opportunities. As a true freshman, the 6-foot-3 wideout tallied 264 receiving yards and a touchdown in limited action. Don’t be surprised if Tate becomes the next first-round talent developed under Hartline.
