Ex-Husky Smalls Is Moving to New Position at Colorado

Sav'ell Small's athleticism has never been in question, but finding the the right outlet for it remains an ongoing quest for the former University of Washington football player.

Now at Colorado, an athlete once regarded as the nation's No. 1 edge rusher prospect and a 5-star recruit said in a weight-room video posted on Friday he is moving to tight end for his final season with Deion Sanders' Buffaloes.

After playing three seasons at the UW, Smalls joined Colorado last fall and appeared in just four of 12 games as a defensive player, taking the field against Nebraska, Oregon, USC and Stanford for a 4-8 team.

Previously, he had appeared in all 29 games played during his time with the Huskies, even starting once as a freshman in 2020.

Following spring football, Smalls left the UW after spending a season with Kalen DeBoer's staff as a reserve and coming up with 14 tackles for an 11-2 team.

Colorado has five other tight ends on the roster, among them a pair of freshman and two others coming off injuries, but no one who has held the job for long.
