Former Texas Longhorns Head Coach Mack Brown had some high praise for current Texas QB1 Arch Manning. Brown said Manning reminded him of the University of Texas great Vince Young. Young had an illustrious college career as a Longhorn, which included three consecutive double-digit touchdown seasons, culminating in a National Championship in 2005. This comparison is of high praise for Manning, who is expected to be one of the most hyped up quarterbacks in all of college football this year.
Texas quarterbacks are usually good ones, and Manning is no different. Depending on how this season goes at Texas, he’s expected to be one of the top prospects in next year’s draft. We’ll see if he can live up to the hype. Brown said that Manning had a humble demeanor about him, which isn’t always the most common trait to have for a college player of this kind of magnitude.
Brown appeared on “The Stampede” podcast and commented on Manning. “He seems like he listens. He’s very humble.” Getting praise from a former Texas Longhorns coach is one thing, but being compared to a quarterback who won a National Championship with your school is taking it to the next level.
If Manning has a good season, he’s going to be picked in the top ten of the NFL Draft. In 2024, Manning completed 61 passes on 90 attempts, for a 67.8 completion percentage. He threw for 939 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. He was overshadowed by Quinn Ewers last season, but the path is clear now.
With the hype around Manning, the Texas Longhorns surely will garner lots of attention. It will be exciting to see what Manning can do in a full college season with Texas. He should easily surpass his totals from last season.
