Fernando Mendoza has never been shy about his commitment to the Las Vegas Raiders. Ever since the AFC West selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, Mendoza has promised to give his all to the franchise.
The biggest proof of his commitment happened a couple of weeks ago. The Indiana Hoosiers 2025 College Football Playoff championship team visited the White House earlier this month. Everybody met President Donald Trump except Mendoza, who stayed practicing in Las Vegas.
He almost skipped another event to stay in Las Vegas, but it wasn’t possible.
Mendoza had to attend the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles. During a Q&A session with Sports Illustrated this week, the quarterback revealed he was mad about missing practice to attend the event.
“I’m going to be completely honest with you,” Mendoza said. “I’d rather be practicing right now, and I was really upset about actually having to miss practice for this.”
Even so, he decided to have a good time, although he would prefer to stay with his teammates, preparing for the 2026 season.
“I’m not going to feel sorry for myself and feel wishy-washy,” Mendoza said. “I’m going to have a smile on my face and make the most of that present moment.”
Mendoza has clear priorities. He can leave a huge mark on the Raiders’ history, and you can tell he wants to do so at every aspect.
