The Texas A&M Aggies have to be feeling great right now. Sure, the sting of their 17-14 loss to Appalachian State is still there. It was made better by consecutive wins over No. 13 Miami and No. 10 Arkansas.
The Aggies also just got a massive commitment on the recruiting trail, quite literally. David Hicks is a 5-star defensive lineman from Katy, Texas. Checking in at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds as a senior in high school, Hicks has decided to keep his talents in the state and nearby. He'll be going to college and playing football at Texas A&M, not an hour away from Paetow High School — where he also plays basketball and throws shot put and discus.
"They have a really great coaching staff and I have a really great relationship with everyone on staff," Hicks told ESPN regarding his commitment to the Aggies. "They've been recruiting me since eighth grade and I can stay close to home."
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, not only is Hicks the top 2023 recruit from the state of Texas, but he's also a Top 10 recruit in the nation — checking in at No. 9. Not surprisingly, he's also the top-ranked defensive lineman recruit in the country.
Hicks is Texas A&M's second 5-star commitment of the recruiting cycle, joining 5-star linebacker Anthony Hill.
Notably, the Aggies earned Hicks' commitment despite heavy interest from Okalahoma.
