Five-Star QB Takes Legendary Jersey Number at Colorado

Julian Lewis' route to Boulder came the unconventional way. After the five-star recruit decommitted from USC, he was redirected to Colorado with Deion Sanders' guidance. Now, his career takes another step in the right direction by paying homage to a Buffaloes legend.

On Thursday, Julian's father, T.C., took to social media to show appreciation for Colorado getting his son the right jersey number.

"Little things like getting your number for kids goes a long way. Thankful for @DeionSanders and the staff at CU for how they’ve made Julian’s transition to college life smooth."

Lewis is one of two top-tier quarterbacks in Boulder looking to be the heir apparent to Shedeur Sanders. The Carrollton, Georgia native joins Liberty transfer and two-year starter Kaidon Salter.

This could be a year where Sanders and Colorado offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur features both quarterbacks in different situations. Salter appears to be the frontrunner for starting reps, but no official announcement will come until fall camp.

Lewis will take No. 10 next year, which was made famous at Colorado by Kordell Stewart in the mid-90s. The Buffaloes top dual-threat passer accounted for 8,206 total yards and 48 touchdowns in 33 career games. Lewis replied to his father's post by saying, "Blessed to be able to wear 10 at CU @KSlash10."

Lewis threw 11,010 yards and 144 touchdowns at Carrollton High School. He was named a 2024 MaxPreps First-Team All-American after being reclassified up a year to the 2025 recruiting class.

Colorado opens the 2025 season against Georgia Tech on Friday, August 29 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
