Florida Gators Land Talented Safety From The Transfer Portal
Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Florida Gators have lost a lot of defensive pieces this season. They have done a decent job at replenishing the talent and got a huge piece late Thursday night. Former Washington Huskies safety Asa Turner announced he has committed to the program.

Florida Gators Land S Asa Turner

Turner has spent the last three years with the Huskies and has been very productive. In his three-year career, he has 146 Tackles and six interceptions. He comes to Florida with one year of eligibility remaining. The Gators have remade their secondary through the transfer portal. They have already landed former Oregon cornerback Trikweze Bridges, former Tulane safety DJ Douglas, and class of 2024 Alabama cornerback Jameer Grimsley. In a tough SEC, the Gators will need every bit of talent on the field they can get.

2024 Outlook

Lost in all of the shuffling of players is that Florida will have some continuity at the quarterback position in 2024. Graham Mertz, who had a career with the team, is returning next season. The Swamp also remains one of the toughest places to play. For Florida, the biggest issue is the density of talented teams in the SEC. Georgia, Alabama, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas all have their sights set on a national championship. This is on top of another program that is looking to sneak up on people in 2024. It is not going to be an easy task to come out on top.

Landing Turner is a huge boost for the Florida Gators. One thing is for sure. Their pass defense is going to be stingy with all of the talent they have in the secondary.
