Florida Gators QB DJ Lagway makes a bold proclamation about 2025 season, and he says what everyone is feeling

This has been a season to forget for the Florida Gators.

Heading into the season, the Gators were viewed as a potential College Football Playoff team. They had a quarterback on the rise, promising weapons for DJ Lagway, and trenches on both sides of the football. After a brutal 1-3 start, things collapsed quickly around the program, and they never got things back on track.

That lack of success also meant the firing of head coach Billy Napier. He was relieved of his duties after starting 3-4, and interim head coach Billy Gonzales has kept the team afloat, but the team is no longer bowl-eligible.

2025 season has been hard on Gators QB DJ Lagway

You can tell just by looking at the news wires that it's been a tough one for the Gators this season. Lagway has had a very rough 10 months since the end of last season, and

“Six, seven months ago, I wasn’t even playing football, so I’m happy to be out there and get the chance to play,” Lagway said. “It’s hard when you don’t have success, though. That’s what you play the game for.

“We didn’t come out with a W. This has just been emotionally draining this whole year, to be honest, since all the way back in January.”

It's not too much of a surprise that it's been a trying year for Lagway. He missed all of spring practice, dealing with multiple injuries, and it continued during fall camp. You can tell by watching the offense that Lagway is still dealing with something, as he doesn't have the same zip on the football that he had last season.

Nobody can blame him for being frustrated. Everyone in that building and the fanbase deserves to be frustrated with how this season has gone. The best thing for the Gators would be to get this season over with, but there are still two games left, and both are at The Swamp: Tennessee Volunteers and Florida State Seminoles.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Lagway have offseason surgery to fix his issues, and that should help him for next season. Will that be in Gainesville? Only time will tell, but it could very well be for Lane Kiffin.
