The Florida Gators are making a push on the recruiting front, and four-star linebacker Malik Morris could soon join the fold.

After wrapping up an official visit to Gainesville over the weekend, Morris emerged more convinced of head coach Billy Napier’s vision for the program.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 225 pounds, the standout from Lakeland High School has made numerous trips to Florida this past year, but this visit had a unique significance.

“It cleared a lot to see where they stand,” Morris shared with Swamp247 on Monday. “They still stand pretty good with me… it’s not too far from the crib. High possibility.”

As Morris's comfort level with the program continues to strengthen, the Gators appear to be in a strong position.

“The visit was amazing. Coming to this program, I already knew what was going on,” he reflected. “I felt comfortable with it, and now it's just a bigger step to the next point of where we can go with this in the recruitment process.”

Securing in-state talents like Morris is vital for Napier’s rebuilding efforts.

Despite a rocky finish to the 2023 season, the Gators are shifting the narrative after an up-and-down 2024.

With five-star quarterback DJ Lagway, currently regarded as one of the top QB prospects in the nation, the 2025 roster is shaping up to be Napier’s most promising yet.

Though Lagway has been limited this spring due to shoulder soreness, he enters the fall as a potential dark horse for the Heisman Trophy.

His backup, Louisville transfer Harrison Bailey, brings experience to the table, but Lagway's potential is hard to overlook after finishing last season with an impressive 154.9 passer rating and 12 completions of over 40 yards in just seven starts.

With Morris leaning towards joining Florida and Lagway set to take the lead, the Gators are beginning to regain their competitive edge.
